We're Not Looking For Members...
  We're Looking For Fellow Servants.
To be a Christian means more than simply having the knowledge of what Christians believe. To be a Christian means allowing the Holy Spirit to shape your life through Word and Sacrament. It means letting go of our selfish pride that insists that we can take care of ourselves, and letting God become Lord over our lives. It means trusting God for all things, not just our salvation, and letting ourselves be ruled by God as servants of His Kingdom. That takes faith -- a faith constantly nourished and fed by His Word and Sacrament. Only be growing in faith, may we hope to surrender ourselves to God and carry-out His will in our lives.

If we consistently encounter God's Word and Sacrament, we cannot help but be changed. Like a young child we need to be constantly reminded of right from wrong, what we should believe or not believe, and how we should or should not act. We, too, forget and go astray from what our Father in Heaven has taught us. More importantly, in that encounter we are reminded of God's love for us--a love that accepts us for who we are despite our faults--and forgives us. We learn from God what it is to love, and to share that love with others.

As we grow in faith and love, we cannot help but share the Good News of Jesus Christ with others. It is rather like a new bride, who loves to talk about her new husband and the wonderful life they have together. Christians strengthened by God's grace also enjoy talking about Jesus and the life they have -- a life in Christ. They want others to know the Good News of God's salvation through Jesus Christ. Strengthened by faith and love, we become the disciples God intended us to be.

There are many ways to "tell the story" as the song goes. Not the least of which is by deed. Motivated by our faith and love for God, we not only want to speak to others about this Good News, but we want to live out that Good News in our lives. We want to practice what we preach. In doing so we find that we are gentler and kinder to one another; that we are more understanding and forgiving; that we are more willing to be accepting and helping of a stranger. When we allow our faith in God and His love to work within us, we cannot help but want to share that love through word and deed.
